Here's an interesting anecdote: I'm 26, I don't get health insurance through my job, and I'm okay with that because I'm an independent contractor who has decided on my own to do this kind of work. If I had half of the 28% that I paid out of my income of taxes last year I would be able to buy an awesome plan that would cover anything that might come up. In reality I don't want this plan. I'm healthy and in the name of "health care efficiency" I wouldn't pay for anything above a plan that would cover catastrophic events. These plans are much cheaper, and I would be able to pay for this with just about 20% of the taxes that I pay. Even if I had this 20%, there's one very important thing that I believe in. IT SHOULD STILL BE MY CHOICE TO PUT MY MONEY TWARDS HEALTH INSURANCE! Obama will not lower my taxes by 20%, and to pay for his plan he will have to raise them (and yes, taxing the "rich" will lower my paycheck, even if it happens via inflation). Let's recap; I will be forced to pay for a plan that I don't want or need, no one has asked me if I want or need it, and on top of that I am being used as a statistic to sell this bill by being one of the country's uninsured. I know that personal choice is not a popular political belief in the democratic party (except with abortion), but taking my hard-earned money and forcing me to buy something that I don't need goes beyond personal choice and starts to make me want to produce less. I keep hearing Obama talk about efficiency. Is this efficiency? I guess that I'm just too stupid to efficiently run my own life. Use that as an anecdote.
